St Brigid's Day and Candelmas

The celebration of festivals is important in our school community and in early February each year, we honour St Brigid and mark Candlemas with our own, special traditions. The children focused diligently on weaving reeds into crosses, meanwhile an Earth Candle was created by using spent candles to fill a hollow under the willow tree with old wax and a new, suspended wick. Once lit, the belief is that the roots of plants will know it’s Spring and seeds will begin to burst into life. The long winter is waning.
